Just One Day! No excuse for abuse!!

,

One 24-hour period this February, was so heart-breaking it saw our volunteers, staff and veterinary team in tears.

In just one day we took in Eric, an emaciated French Bulldog, we sadly lost one of the tiny Ragdoll kittens from the large-scale breeder rescue at the weekend, as her tiny body was just not strong enough to make it despite all our care and today, we received three tiny birds and a fancy rat in such shocking condition that it absolutely devastated a vet nurse.

Four-year-old, Eric was brought in from Northwich, where his owners of two years wanted him gone as they were moving, they said he was thin, but when he arrived for his assessment, we were just so shocked that we just took him in.  Eric has been seen by a vet to check out for underlying health conditions, but whatever the outcome – if he was purposely starved or ill, it is still cruelty as they did not bother to take him to see a vet, just expecting to dispose of him like rubbish and expect a charity to foot the bill.

Despite all this, he is a lovely boy and just wants to play, which in a way makes the whole situation worse, he has now gone into a foster home, to start his journey to recovery in his lovely new warm coat.

We agreed to take in three birds, two finches and a canary and a fancy rat, from an owner in Fearnhead.  When our volunteer collected them from the owner, he was left speechless as he had never seen animals in such a state and clearly suffering…

The rat, we have named Ralph, was in a small cage with no bedding, dirty water and a few Cornflakes, he was emaciated with a leg injury.  At first, we thought he was too far gone but after seeing the vet and spending time wrapped up in a cosy blanket on a heat pad, Ralph showed us what a fighter he was and started to groom himself and show interest in food.  To give this little fella the best chance, he has been taken home by our vet and we all have our fingers crossed that he survives.

The three little birds, two Finches and one Canary arrived in a bare cage, without perches, no appropriate food and dirty water.  One little Finch with broken deformed legs was so far gone and suffering that he had to be put to sleep, it’s touch and go with the surviving Finch and Canary, but they have gone to a specialist foster home to get some TLC.

Not a penny in donations was given by any of these owners!!

Sadly, this is not these events are no longer unusual. WAW are drowning in the amount of unwanted and sick animals, and it is getting worse week on week, and we are desperate for your help if we hope to continue to help these poor innocent souls.

Rescues are becoming a dumping ground for sick animals!  We are experiencing sickly pets being discarded more and more, our team are witnessing horrendous neglect on a daily basis and are greatly concerned about pets that we don’t know about, because at least the ones that come to WAW stand a chance, thanks to our supporters.

There is no excuse to let an animal suffer.  If you are struggling to feed your pet, please contact us and we will help you.  You can also check out your local Food Bank, speak to the large animal rescues and community food banks.

People's support is so important to the charity to let us keep helping these neglected animals, our happy endings are only possible with your support.
