Chico is a little dog with a big heart, with the most incredible spirit. At around 10 years old, he may be a little older – but don’t let that fool you. This special boy still has plenty of life, love, and energy to share with the right person.

Chico came into our care in the summer of 2025 in truly heart-breaking circumstances. He was dumped outside our centre, alone, frail, and in clear agony. His tiny body was matted, neglected, and hiding unimaginable suffering. A veterinary examination revealed just how much he had endured – his intestines had prolapsed, and his bladder and prostate had slipped due to weakened pelvic muscles. It was clear Chico had been suffering for a long time, silently and without help.

And yet… despite everything, Chico was gentle. Trusting. Loving.

He underwent surgery and, incredibly, recovered so well, showing the same quiet resilience that defines him.

Over the past 10 months, Chico has been lovingly cared for in a foster home, where he has truly begun to blossom.

He has made amazing progress – learning to trust again, finding joy in the little things, and discovering that life doesn’t have to be frightening. Situations that once scared him now barely faze him, and his personality has started to shine through.

He’s funny, clever, and deeply affectionate, a little shadow who loves being close to his people.

Chico enjoys getting out and about too. He’s visited pubs and cafés, regularly spends time at a local care home (where he is adored by residents and staff), and even joins a weekly walking group. He may be 10, but he can happily keep up, this is not a dog who will be content with a quick stroll around the block!

Chico would suit a calm, understanding home where he can continue to feel safe and secure.

  • He would be happiest as the only pet, where he can truly thrive
  • He needs an adult-only home (no young children or cats)

Like many dogs who have experienced trauma, he can be reactive to some things outdoors (such as fast-moving bikes or loud environments), but with patience and the right setting, this is manageable

What Chico needs most is someone who sees him, not just for what he’s been through, but for who he is now.

Chico has already come so far. From being abandoned in pain and fear…to learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and part of a life again.

Now he just needs one final piece of his story…a forever home where he will never be let down again.

If you can offer Chico the love, patience, and security he deserves, you won’t just be giving him a home, you’ll be giving him the happy ending he’s waited so long for. Apply today!!
